Tips & Tricks for creating the ultimate outdoor entertaining space by Monica Bean – ”My go to for every gathering big and small.”

Having styled hundreds of homes across Sydney over my career as an Interior Stylist and Designer, I believe that it’s the little touches that make your house a home, and this holds true when you head outdoors, too. Supa Centa Moore Park’s diverse range of outdoor accessories can help you transform your patio, deck or balcony into an inviting space, ready for relaxing afternoons, elegant dinner parties and summer barbecues which is why it’s my go-to for all gatherings big and small.

Tip #1 Decorating a smaller space
Scale is important especially with a space used for entertaining. You want to feel like guests have plenty of space to move around without feeling crowded. Lightweight pieces of furniture with stick legs up off the ground create the feeling of more space. Outdoor tables and bench seats from Wintons Teak at Supa Centa Moore Park helps achieve this. The Piav table from Wintons Teak has really great versatile bench seats for when you want a casual look; which can also be pushed underneath and hidden when not in use for extra space. Dressing the table up to look formal is also easy by replacing the benches with chairs.

Another tip to decorating a smaller space is using neutral furniture pieces. Neutral furniture is timeless and can be dressed up with cushions and accessories in on-trend colours as an affordable way to update the space. On trend colours that I am loving right now for myself and for my clients are peach, apricots and corals. The Catania outdoor cushion from Freedom has a really fun lemon and peach print – perfect for dressing up any outdoor area. Adding simple accessories to your outdoor table setting really helps to bring texture and layering. I used the Pink Malmo Linen Throw from Adairs to double up as a table cloth and wicker lanterns from Shack to provide intimate lighting for when the sun goes down.

The Piav Table from Wintons Teak is a great versatile piece for Summer outdoor entertaining that can be paired with backless benches for a casual look or dressed up with chairs when you require a more formal setting.

Tip #2 How to host a party / entertain in a smaller space
Grazing tables are a great way to feed small and large gatherings depending on the type of party you are hosting. They are also a colourful feast for the eyes that caters to all sorts of dietary requirements – think lots of veggies, dips, crackers, cheese, cured meats and nuts spread across a long timber serving platter from Robin’s Kitchen.

Simple and easy hot meals for your outdoor party can be cooked on a good old Aussie BBQ! The Ziggy Twin Grill from BBQs Galore is the perfect size for your downsized area. This compact BBQ will impress your guests anywhere from the backyard to an inner-city balcony and delivers on flexibility to cater for an intimate dinner or a crowd of friends. Ziggy’s signature flame thrower ignition means it will light first time, every time and is designed to withstand the Aussie climate, meaning you can leave your Ziggy outside, year after year.

A Summer party would not be the same without fresh seafood dishes like this Seafood Paella from Weber or Dukkah Prawn Skewers from Barbeques’s Galore.

Enjoy a cocktail or two in the Summer sunshine with a fully stocked bar cart from Oz Design. This white painted wicker Hamptons inspired bar cart will ensure you serve your guests in style – The castor wheels allow for ease of movement in even the smallest of spaces and the tray below makes for extra storage for your extra cushions and throws. My key essentials are of course an assortment of spirits and mixers and an ice bucket. The natural rattan design on the Kopu Ice Bucket from OZdesign is the perfect accessory to complement the Hamptons style drink trolley. When it comes to cocktail shakers and glassware; Robin’s Kitchen has got you covered – don’t forget the Cellar Whiskey Stones to keep your drinks cool!

For a simple, refreshing Summer cocktail, I can never go past sparkling Rose Lemonade – and the best part about it is it’s so easy to make. All you need is your favourite bottle of Rosé, some lemonade and freshly sliced lemon. Mix 2/3 rose, 1/3 sparkling lemonade and squeeze in the freshly sliced lemon. To garnish, use a combination of summer fruits or flowers for an alternative twist. Cheers!

Tip #3 No garden? No worries! Introducing greenery to your outdoor space.
Planter boxes, decorative pots layered by size or vertical green walls are great options to bring greenery into a small space. Not only are they visually appealing to look at, but they also free up floor space that you would otherwise lose when planting a typical herb or vegie garden into the Earth.

The Hexad Vertical Garden from Freedom is perfect for creating an outdoor oasis in even the most Urban of settings. Plant your favourite herbs, flowers or greenery even on the balcony of a high-rise apartment, and if your green thumb isn’t the greatest you can substitute the real greenery for the faux with Freedom’s large range of artificial plants and florals for a fuss free alternative.

Tip #4 The perfect finishing touch
A Summer BBQ isn’t quite complete without music! Be the life of the party with the Sonos One Speaker in white from The Good Guys and play what you want where you want. The Sonos One supports 59 music services and is compatible with smartphones. For instant stereo sound, simply pair two Sonos Ones together in the same room to get the party started!
