Interior designers Shareen Joel, Arent&Pyke and Greg Natale share their ‘how to’ when it comes to approaching colour, with loads of insider tips on creating vibrant, livable spaces.

Juliette Arent & Sarah-Jane Pyke, ARENT&PYKE, on Getting It White
Sydney interior designers Arent&Pyke advise clients that getting the right shade of white isn’t as easy as one might think. ‘There are almost as many shades of white as there are colours on the colour wheel’ Juliette Arent explains, ‘if the white has too much yellow a space can feel dated, too much blue can make a room feel cold.’

All about the floor
Whilst wall and ceiling colours are important, Arent&Pyke believe floor finishes ultimately set the tone for the style of a home and advise the importance of considering the functionality of each space when deciding on opting for hard or soft floor surfaces. Their tips include using neutral carpeting in bedroom spaces to add softness and warmth and the use of rugs to pull together interior schemes in living rooms.

Arent&Pyke use room furnishings as a starting point to determine the best option in flooring finishes always considering if natural fibre, bold block colour or pattern and geometry will unify the interior. ‘We encourage a balance between practicality, aesthetics and maintenance,’ Sarah-Jane Pyke adds.
